Horizons Dodgeball Tournament
FRUITLAND, MD.  Horizons Dogeball Tournament at the Crown Sports Center. Proceeds will benefit the Salisbury Horizons program. Teams will consist of 6-8 players, cost for a team is $250, only $30 a person
Teams are encouraged to wear costumes or uniforms. Prizes will be awarded to the best team costumes and division champions. Beautiful Baby Contest at Streetfest in Princess Anne
PRINCESS ANNE, MD. The Princess Anne Chamber of Commerce invites parents to enter their baby into "The Beautiful Baby Contest" in conjuction with our 2009 Streetfest on May 9th. Registration forms  with rules can be picked up at Barefoot Baby or Salon at Somerset in Downtown Princess Anne starting April 1st. A $5 registration fee is required for each submission. Voting will cost 25 cents per vote and occur from 10 to 2 pm on May 9th at Streetfest. A winner and prize basket will be announced at 3 pm on May 9th.

SALISBURY, MD.  Boy Scout Troop 176 invites the public to their annual Spaghetti Dinner fundraiser on Saturday, May 9th, 4-8pm at the Rotary Scout House on Riverside Drive, Salisbury. Salisbury Youth Orchestra
SALISBURY, MD.  Salisbury Youth Orchestra, under the direction of Dr. Jeffrey Schoyen will be giving a Spring concert on May 14th at 7:30p.m. in Holloway Hall at Salisbury University. SYO is southern Delmarva's only full orchestra for young people. It consists of 45 members from all over the greater Salisbury area as well as from lower Delaware. The program to be performed includes classical and comtemporary music. Admission is $5.00 for adults and children are free. 2nd Annual Unicity Performing Arts Festival
SALISBURY, MD.  The Unicity Festival, brought in part by the Wicomico County Parks, Recreation & Tourism Office, is The Mid-Atlantic’s only 2 day performing arts festival. Friday May 15th - 3pm to 10pm and Saturday May 16th – 10am to 10pm, the festival will be held at Winterplace Park which spans over 110 acres in Wicomico County. Over 400 of all types of performing artists on 5 stages, national acts, food, beer vendors, beach volleyball, and amusement rides. The festival creates a positive, fun, and educational experience to bring a variety of races, sexes and cultures together. Over 10,000 have attended Unicity Performances in the past. From Marsh to Table: Hunting, Trapping, and Eating Traditions on Delmarva
SALISBURY, MD.  The Ward Museum of Wildfowl Art, Salisbury University announces From Marsh to Table: Hunting, Trapping, and Eating Traditions on Delmarva.  On Tuesday, May 26 at 5:30pm, hunters and trappers of the Chesapeake Bay region share their stories, techniques, recipes, and oral histories, allowing a glimpse into one of Delmarva’s favorite pastimes.  Some of the featured speakers include Mike and Glenda Pusey, Martin Hansen, Dan Livingston, and Capt. Ron Smith.  A tasting will follow, featuring traditional cuisine that is hunted and eaten on Delmarva. 
This project was made possible by a grant from the Maryland Humanities Council through support from the National Endowment for the Humanities. Views, findings, conclusions, or recommendations expressed in this program do not necessarily represent those of the National Endowment for the Humanities or the Maryland Humanities Council.  The event is FREE and held in the Ward Museum lobby, but advance registration is required.  To register, call 410-742-4988, ext. 110.

Delmarva Youth 5th Birthday Celebration

FRUITLAND, MD. Healthy U of Delmarva HUEY AWARD
SALISBURY, MD. The HUEYs, a seminal part of Healthy U, reward area individuals and organizations for healthy practices. The 2009 awards are presented during a family-focused Celebration of Health, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday, May 30, at Salisbury University’s athletic fields on Wayne Street.  Activities begin with a 5K run/walk at 10:30 a.m. (check-in at 10 a.m.). Registration is $20, free for ages 15 and under. All entrants must sign up by Friday, May 8. Participants receive a T-shirt, water bottle and lunch, and prizes are presented in seven age groups from youth to senior. Other activities include free family-fun events and demonstrations such as face painting, healthy living exhibits, healthy food vendors and inflatables for the kids. Rain date is Sunday, May 31. Become a Force for Change in Your Community
Now it the time to get connected to local resources and become a force for positive community change.  The Family Partnership Initiative is hosting a family leadership training program, May 30th and 31st.  This program is designed to expand our team of certified family leaders that can help make a difference in children’s lives at home and in the community. Participants in the training will learn about Active Parenting (www.activeparenting.com) and will receive the training at no cost. After completion of the leadership training, all participants will be able to facilitate Active Parenting workshops for parents residing in Wicomico County. Sherri Allen, a current Volunteer Family Leader, said “My goal is to encourage parents not to feel overwhelmed and to share with them easy tools that can change behavior patterns and empower family communication.”  If you want to give back to your community and feel that you can promote the tools of family leadership by volunteering, please review the attached information and fill out the application. If you know someone who you think would be a great Family Leader, please share this information with them.
